Flashing Back
Holding On

spinning
gasping
mind-blowing
gut sucking
clammy skinned
earth opening
hollowed out
disconnected
disbelief that there could be such cruelty
horror at such cruelty unprocessable
shut down
far away
far behind
still sucking at life
feeding on dark
it spawned
inside
living inside;
yet light of me
soul of me
tunneling through
the muck
the mire
slipping out around corners
testing the territory
pulling back in
when it touches a dark
finger reaching out
touching a cold
clenched back into fist
finger reaching out
at last touching
warmth
trust who
trust what
why trust
must trust
or stay inside
slipping out
pulling back in
letting the horror win
letting the horror win
by slowly feeding it me
gotta come out
can't live in the light of day
can't live in the arms of love
can't live in the sun of peace

Loving by Remy Benoit

Read Jerry Wenstrom's review of Loving.

Rhea and Jordan Devereaux had it all: undying devotion, a tender love, and a grand passion. And then the Vietnam War separated them. Follow the course of their love across time and space. Journey with them through the steaming jungle; dance with the Mardi Gras revelers while revolution unseats Louis XVI and protestors on the Washington Mall scream, Hell, NO. We won't Go. Sail with Laffite's pirates into Devil's Isle and rejoice as an unconditional and timeless love emerges victorious.
