Military Funeral Honors

I apologize to the person who wrote to me today about this. I tried to respond in an e-mail, but  it kept coming back.

The questions were:

What is said when the folded flag is handed to a family member?

And, is the same thing said all the time?

I asked a couple Veterans for help with this. One responded that to the best of  his memory, these are at least close to the words:

Basically the same thing is said every time.

Of course, if the person presenting the flag was personally acquainted with the deceased,in
his company, or served under the officer presenting, or whatever the circumstance, the officer may add a personal note.

Ms ____ it is with the deepest sympathy and the heartfelt thanks, and with the gratitude of a grateful nation, that we present you with this
flag that draped the coffin of ____  after his ultimate sacrifice.

Another Vet suggested this website.

Military Funeral Honors.

Perhaps one of you reading this knows the exact words and would share with us. Thank you.
