The numbers she notes here are reminiscent of other numbers that kept climbing and climbing, adding names that would be carved into The Wall.
We seem to forget a close and elemental lesson that began in 1776 and went on for years with a ragtag army, not properly supplied, or paid, but victorious over the primary power of the time—namely the British Empire. That same Empire did not fare well in Afghanistan; nor did the once upon a time Soviet Empire.
We also have to ask ourselves what exactly we are doing there. Get Afghanistan Right.
