January: More suicide than combat deaths

By Remy Benoit

Perhaps we should catch on that our soldiers are trying to tell us something?

From Pauline Jelinek, AP, at Truthout Army Reports Alarming Spike in Suicides Last Month.

If you care enough to find out why; if you care enough to stand up for your soliders, start with these three books:

Eric Newhouse—Faces of Combat, PTSD and TBI: One Journalist's Crusade to Improve Treatment for Our Veterans.

Ed Tick: War and the Soul.

Dave Grossman—On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society.

What we don't seem to "get" is that no one comes back, if they are fortunate enough to come back, from war the same. There are reasons for this. Please, please learn what they are and what you can do to help those who we send into combat. It is absolutely the right thing to do.
