Les Wright: Christmas in Vietnam, 1969

By Remy Benoit

Les Wright
West Point Class of 1968

I had just arrived in Vietnam December 9 of 1969 and was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division. Away from family, most of the classmates assigned to the area were just going home, and in many other ways the Christmas Holiday seemed more like an Xmas than any I had experienced.

Then on Christmas Eve some units got the planning together and produced a Cross in the sky with flares from different directions and trajectories.

Just a reminder to me that Christ was part of Christmas, even in Vietnam.
