A Mother's Greatest Gift

By Remy Benoit

This is the very first reply to my invitation to share thoughts about being separated from loved ones on the holiday while a family member is in active service.

Thank you so much for sharing, Connie.

My son was in the surge in '07 and '08 which meant lots of holidays missing and worried about him. What made Christmas and my January birthday wonderfully better was an hour long call from him from Iraq. I also had broken my arm and we laughed about that, saying here I was stateside "wounded" and there he was God bless, fine. Phone calls and e-mails got me through including all those generated by his wonderful sweetheart. A mother's greatest gift is the voice of her beloved child no matter how far apart they are.
