California Fires

Our prayers are with all in California. A fire of this scope with the Santa Anna Winds stirring it up is terrifying. With about a half million evacuated and the loss of homes climbing, the people there are facing a catastrophe of immense proportions.

This view on it from Newsweek's Karen Breslau at MSNBC Avoiding Another Katrina In the nation's biggest natural disaster since the devastating hurricane wrecked the Gulf Coast, California so far has proven to provide efficient disaster relief.

The underlying question remains - with all the talk of Homeland Security, what extensive planning for this kind of disaster is being made?
