Do you ever wonder why we tend to immediately think in terms of the bellicose rather than the cooperative? It is not too late to avert all these possible disasters, if we act now; act internationally, with reason, with compassion, and, indeed, with common sense. The "dramatic" fascinates us; the "horror show" holds intense fascination for us; the doing something about it before the real life "disaster movie" hits the screens takes work and commitment.
By the way, this is a warning that was not taken seriously enough - how different would things be today if this had been taken more seriously? How different would the impact of Katrina have been if the monies had not been constantly cut from fixing the levees? We need to take warnings, take the obvious that we refuse to see, quite seriously.
