Virginia Polytechnic Institute

By Remy Benoit

It so very much saddens me to see this horror being played out at Virginia Tech. I spent many happy hours there, many years ago, at Cadet Cotillions. The hallmarks of Virginia Tech are courtesy, Southern hospitality, and the finest education possible. Tech also has some of the best ice cream in the world.

We truly need to be more attentive to those around us who seem to be having psychological problems that could result in this aberrant behavior. This kind of thing on our high school and college campuses can simply not be tolerated.

My heart goes out to the families of those killed and injured today and to the terrible impact that this unparalleled event will have on the image of the University. Ironically, if I was sending my children off to a college, Virginia Tech would be a place where I would have had almost zero concern that this kind of thing would happen. Blacksburg is a lovely town, tied to the University in spirit. My condolences to the people of Blacksburg also.

The early morning calm was shattered by the sound of gunfire. By the time it stopped, at least 33 were dead. Inside the tragedy at Virginia Tech.
