Down History Lane With Barbara Jordan

By Remy Benoit

When I looked at the date of this speech, a speech so filled with pride of country, pride of law, pride of our Constitution, I was amazed that so many years have passed since the day she delivered it to the House Judiciary Committee, July 25, 1974.

I recall sitting there, bound by the cadence of her speech, the power of her voice, and the sheer integrity of the woman, who as she said, was not at the time of its writing considered one of the "WE the people."

I give you Texas Democrat Barbara Jordan (1936-1996) Barbara Jordan: Statement on the Articles of Impeachment.
