news brings apprehension
malls closing
security heightened
plans being made
normalcy is evolving
including pensive joys
revolving around tense moments
of remembering and fear
smiles though fewer carry more weight
hugs last longer with tighter squeezes
hellos and farewells are more heartfelt
calls to family and loved ones more frequent
just checking in
they're killing people in churches
our leaders are complimenting the enemy's
"doggedness"
news shows pictures of hospitals mistakenly hit
civilian victims of this war
we watch with apprehension
knowing we will never be the same
may God guide our hearts and our hands, may our strikes
hit their marks, and may our spirits not be disheartened.

Rhea and Jordan Devereaux had it all: undying devotion, a tender love, and a grand passion. And then the Vietnam War separated them. Follow the course of their love across time and space. Journey with them through the steaming jungle; dance with the Mardi Gras revelers while revolution unseats Louis XVI and protestors on the Washington Mall scream, Hell, NO. We won't Go. Sail with Laffite's pirates into Devil's Isle and rejoice as an unconditional and timeless love emerges victorious.
