Earth Upheavals

By Remy Benoit

Guatemala slide toll may hit 1,400.

From CNN Mapping Katrina to battle future storms.

My best friend was able to go home last week for the first time since Katrina. His home had 11' of water in it for weeks. He said that he opened the door and walked into hell. There is not one thing extant in the house. And he is not alone in this; much of his Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans is in the same condition. So let's do those levees right this time. I hear a lot of people "taking responsibility." Well, take it and do it right. It is totally irrational to rebuild the levees for only a Category 3 hurricane. Perhaps we should listen to some of the visitors from the Netherlands. This is doable. It is much more expensive to not do it right. The port of our beloved city is vital to this nation.

From the Washington Post,Michael Grunwald and Susan B. Glasser, and MSNBC The slow drowning of New Orleans.
