Peace Is a Can Do Thing

By Remy Benoit

The natural extension of " Life, Liberty, and Happiness," is Peace for the planet. Realities begin with visions; take form with words; take on life with actions. "If not now, when; if not by me, by whom?"

When the Founding Fathers of this country ventured into untried territory the world looked on, skeptical at the idea that people could govern themselves.

We have done that; yes, we have made mistakes -- many mistakes -- but we have survived; more than survived, we have grown as a nation and as people.

Representative Dennis Kucinich ( D-Ohio) is asking us to do more growing with his Bill ( H.R. 2549).

Peace: A Concept for Peace...

Whereas, we are in a new millennium and the time has come to review age-old challenges with new thinking; wherein we can conceive of peace as not simply being the absence of violence, but the active presence of the capacity for a higher evolution of the human awareness, of respect, trust and integrity; wherein we all may tap the infinite capabilities of humanity to transform consciousness and conditions which impel or compel violence at a personal, group or national level towards creating understanding, compassion and love; to create a "shining city on a hill" whose light is the light of nations....

A shining city on a hill: can we live up to John Winthrop's vision of us?

Can we truly learn that As a Man Thinketh, So He Is?

Can we stop bewailing the violence in our society, the horror of war and take positive steps to change the patterns of destruction?

My answer to that is Yes, We Can Do That. Representative Kucinich's Porposal outlines many steps we can follow to achieve and end to violence at home, at war.

Does it mean we have to change our thinking patterns?

Yes, it does.

Does it mean we have to look issues square on and say what is really going on here?

Yes, it does.

Does it mean that we have to be concerned with our neighbors; on our block, or across the world?

Yes, it does.

Does it mean that we might have to give up some instant gratification for ourselves to tend to the planet and generations to come?

Yes, it does.

Can we do that?

Have we grown enough to do that?

Yes, we have.

Peace: A Concept for Peace calls for a grassroots movement in this country and abroad. That means We the People get involved, deeply involved with life, at all levels in all places.

Can we expand ourselves to grow into the life of this planet?

Yes, This is A CAN DO THING.

An answer to the question posed 2000 years ago:

If not by me, by whom?
If not now, when?

Please visit, read, stay awhile, stay with the vision of Representative Kucinich.

Be peace,

Remy Benoit
